After rocking his show in Portland last night – with surprise guest Drake – performer/producer Travis Scott tells us how he gets his mind right before he hits the stage.

How do you prepare for a performance?

Usually I ask a thousand questions, like ‘Is it packed?’ Even if the show is sold out. ‘Are the people there?’ I ask that question a thousand times. I ask if people seem hungry.

I’ll listen to music. I listen to Tame Impala: ‘The Less You Know, The Better’. I’ll play some new music I’ve got. I just hype myself up. Sometimes I might walk onstage [after] coming off a straight sleep and it might look like I’ve been there for days.

What’s one thing on the rider you can’t perform without?

I can’t perform without pineapple soda. It’s my favorite.

Why is that?

It’s a thinking drink for me.

What’s one thing you will spare no expense on?

I’m about bringing the spirit out of somebody, so that’s one thing I just gotta do. I don’t drink alcohol. I don’t smoke cigarettes. I don’t care about none of that. I just like energy. People, man. I’ll pay money for people to have fun. Whatever we have to do, you know? Like DJ, get on the mic, if it’s not even my show, or whatever. Just something.

When you’re out on the road, what do you do to relax and chill out?

Watch movies. I watch movies all day.
