Tyla-Lauren Gilmore is all about family, which includes both her parents and brothers in Staten Island and her thousands of followers around the world. The 26-year-old, who talks candidly about style and beauty on Instagram and YouTube, specializes in making everyone feel welcome and part of her life.
Over the years, Tyla-Lauren has been focused on spreading messages that encourage women to feel more comfortable in their own skin — with or without heels or makeup. Sneakers, in particular, have played a huge role in her life and upbringing, so much that she and her siblings grew up buying matching Air Jordans.
“I think that women often get intimidated by styling sneakers, because they really love them, but they’re not always sure how to be creative with the clothing aspect,” says Tyla-Lauren. “I love to show women that wearing Jordans doesn’t have to mean putting on a sweatsuit. I really push that style is whatever you feel most comfortable doing or trying — head to toe.”
Tyla brought that approach to styling the Air Jordan VI Infrared. “I love a higher silhouette like the Air Jordan VI, and the Infrared is a classic,” says Tyla-Lauren. “I’ve always loved the way that all kinds of pants and trousers fit on the AJVI. The shoe was ahead of its time for the court but also for the street.”
Here, Tyla-Lauren breaks down three ways to style the Air Jordan VI Infrared.
“I’ve always thought that yellow and red look so good together. I used to only wear black. If you put a yellow blazer on top of a neutral base — with the AJVIs — you suddenly have a whole new look.”
“This is my favorite outfit. I love the way the trousers fall on the Air Jordan VIs without being too overpowering. Instead of doing a red pant to match the sneakers, I incorporated the color through plaid. The forest green crewneck helps bring out the trouser colors, too. This look is about being super comfortable but also warm, with an exaggerated puffer, especially if where you are happens to be freezing like New York City.”
STREET MEETS SNAKESKIN
“My inspiration for this entire shoot was to represent both feminine and ‘street’ styling. I wanted to include a sweatshirt with a little more dimension. I love these baggier track pants mixed with a bold pattern. Right now, snakeskin is trending, and it helps with putting a twist on an otherwise classic combination of sneakers and sweatpants.”
